Lewis Hamilton has recently shared his opinion on the cancellation of the remaining races of the 2022 W Series and has blatantly criticized F1 and the FIA.

In early October, the W Series Chief Executive Chairman, Bond Muir made it public that the last three races of the 2022 season had been canceled due to financial issues.

Moreover, Bond Muir further said that she had hoped for W Series to at least continue until the race at the Circuit of the Americas, but indicated that she had to cancel the remaining races keeping in mind the long-term prospects of the sport.

While Muir has applauded the FIA’s continuous support, Lewis Hamilton, on the other hand, is not at all pleased with the state of the W Series and has bashed both F1 and the FIA.

While stressing about the same, Hamilton said, “There has not been enough focus on women in the sport the whole of F1’s life and there is not enough emphasis on it now, and they are not magnifying enough the great work that is being done there.

There is not enough representation across the board in our industry and there is not really a pathway for those young amazing drivers to get to F1.”

He further adds, “Then you have some people say there is never going to be a female F1 driver, and that’s not a good narrative to be putting out.”

We need to be doing more. With F1 and Liberty [Media, F1’s commercial rights holders] doing so well, it is not a lot for them to help out in that space.”

Lewis Hamilton has been earning his living through F1 since 2007 and knows how difficult it is to get a seat in the sport, moreover, he has previously, on many occasions, talked ardently about seeing women in F1.

The 37-year-old paid a visit to the W Series drivers in July this year as they were preparing for their race at the Hungaroring, and while talking to them, he indicated that he is happy with the 2019 launch of the W Series, but at the same time is a bit saddened by its state of affairs today.

While stressing about it, Hamilton added, “It’s great that we have the W Series, but we as a sport need to do way more for young girls getting into the sport, and for these women.”

There’s no progression from the W Series… when you win that, do you get a seat in F2, or whatever it may be? We can definitely do a lot more to support these girls.”

Lewis Hamilton has vouched for a proper system to be developed around women’s racing so that they also have something to look forward to after doing their trade in the W Series.

He has further made it known that he would ideally like to see the top drivers from W Series get a chance in F2 so that a way can be paved for future generations to make it into F1.

Currently, it seems a distant dream to see women at the pinnacle of motor racing but everything is possible, and the way F1 is evolving, who knows somewhere down the line people might see women racing in F1.
