“There is one team which is not willing to engage,” Lewis Hamilton disappointed with that one F1 team blocking his diversity plan

After a frustrating race in Monaco, Lewis Hamilton is hopeful for a better weekend this time out in Baku.

Lewis Hamilton might have better weekends on the track off late but has had a torrid time off it. Recently, he was racially abused by the three time world champion, Nelson Piquet, who called him the N-word. The former F1 driver didn’t stop there as he went on to follow it up with a homophobic slanderous comment during a podcast. We also had an incident in which Red Bull junior driver, Juri Vips, said a racist comment.

The seven time world champion who has time and again reiterated the fact that he wants to be seen more than just a driver, has come out to fight this social evil which is evidently present in F1. The governing body, just like Lewis Hamilton, has been working really hard to make this sport as inclusive and diverse as possible but quite clearly, we need to do more.

Mercedes along with Lewis Hamilton launched a joint initiative called ‘Ignite’ to promote diversity within motorsport. This shows how committed the Mercedes driver is to bring equality in the sport. But, just like throughout his career, he has had to fight through blockades. Talking about this issues, Lewis said that F1 needs to do more.

In one of the recent interviews, talking about his diversity plans in F1, he said, “I’m doing the most I can. I don’t know what else I can do. Formula 1 continuously needs to do more, all the teams need to do more. I think we are very close to getting this diversity inclusion charter going.”

“I think it’s still one team – still the same team – is not willing to engage but I’m grateful to see the other teams are willing to step forward and do the work.  don’t think it’d be appropriate to name the team. We’ve gone back and forth to them and for some reason they don’t want to but all the other nine teams have which is really encouraging.”

”I think Formula 1 100% should continue to do more. In the previous years we had the whole We Race As One thing, but that really was just a lip service that we’re not… we need to do more.”

Lewis Hamilton might be sparking another debate by not naming the team which is not ready to engage. But, it’s sensible of him to do so as this would have brought in a lot of criticism for that team.
