“There is something wrong we need to address,” Mattia Binotto admits to Ferrari’s poor run of form

Ferrari team principal Mattia Binotto
Mattia Binotto after the poor result at Zandvoort has admitted that there are problems at Ferrari that needs addressing ahead of the remaining races of the season.
Ferrari has proved second best to Red Bull on most occasions in 2022, and after 15 rounds, is way behind the Max Verstappen-led Red Bull outfit.
Moreover, at the end of the Dutch Grand Prix, Charles Leclerc was able to secure a P3 finish for the Maranello-based team whereas Carlos Sainz, on the other hand, was only able to manage P8 after getting penalized with a 5-second time penalty.
Ferrari is going through a tough period at the moment, and after Zandvoort, Charles Leclerc is a massive 109 points behind Max Verstappen in the Driver Championship and the situation is even worse in the Constructors.

Mattia while dwelling on the team’s result at Zandvoort said, “The key is we have not been fast enough. If you look at the quali pace of yesterday were hoping for a better result today, but the speed of the car was not great – especially on the medium and hard.”

Ferrari at the start of the season was considered by many as one of the favorites to clinch the 2022 title, however, the team has slowly drifted backward on the grid.
During the Dutch Grand Prix, Max Verstappen was able to take advantage of the Yuki Tsunoda-triggered VSC, and Binotto while dwelling over it said, “Maybe a bit unlucky with Charles in the pitstop with the safety car but I don’t think it would be enough.”
“Three bad races in a row – Hungary, Spa, and here that I think we aren’t exploiting the full potential of the car. The potential is there. It was the case at the start of the season but not now. I think if I look at it, it was a late call. No time to react.”
“There is something wrong that we need to address. Nothing to do with the TD. In Hungary, I said we weren’t good enough. Maybe we need to look at the package we introduced that isn’t balanced today.”

Mattia binotto is running out of excuses to cover up Ferrari’s lackluster form, and considering what he has said after the Dutch GP, it seems that a lot of internal work is ahead of the team before they go racing at Monza during the upcoming weekend.
Moreover, there are seven races left in the current season, and after seeing the gap that Red Bull has put between themselves and Ferrari, it is looking more and more likely that the Italian team will have to settle for second in both the Championships this year.
