‘You should ask Daniel’: Lando Norris conveniently chooses to stay quiet about the ongoing transfer drama at McLaren
Lando Norris
It was announced this week that F1 driver driver Daniel Ricciardo will part ways with Mclaren at the end of the season. This came as a shock to many including Lando Norris who is currently his teammate. A few days back, the team had confirmed that Daniel was going to continue with the team in 2023. Although negotiations seemed to have taken the wrong turn which brought us to this situation.
In 2021, Ricciardo was nowhere near Lando Norris when it came to qualifying pace. Along with that, a few poor results follow suit which didn’t help his case either. Daniel apparently left Red Bull because they seemed to be giving more preference to young talent and the same seemed to be happening at McLaren with Norris. In 2022, the Brit has been constantly outperforming his teammate but still has immense respect for him. When Daniel first came to the team, it wad expected that he would complete destroy Norris in terms of qualifying and race pace. This was unfortunately not the case and turned out to be a big disappointment. Seeing the Aussie not able to get grips on his McLaren challenger day in and day out was very disappointing.
Lando Norris will possibly be partnered with Oscar Piastri for next season. With the 21 year old Australian driver set to join the team according to the rumours This will in turn make the British driver the oldest McLaren driver on the current grid. Lando talked about this during an interview and mentioned that it’s a bit strange. This would possibly be the first time that Lando will take on the team leader role fully. After signing a multi year contract with the team, it was imminent that this would happen eventually.
“I don’t know who yet, I look forward to it,” Lando Norris on his teammate for 2023
“There’s many things I can’t talk about, or better for you to ask Daniel than me,” Norris says. “He’s extremely talented and I have a lot of respect for him. I’ve enjoyed working with someone who has won races and scored more podiums than I have,” he said.
“As long as it’s someone I can enjoy spending time with and work together with then I’m happy. I don’t know who yet, I look forward to it. If it is someone younger, than I will probably feel weird, like I’m the older guy and more mature,” he continued.
Lando Norris will have to step up and lead the team no matter who joins as his teammate. He has been racing in F1 with the UK based outfit since 2019 and has gained a lot of experience since then. It will be interesting to see what a driver of his caliber can do with the team moving forward.
