“They already have a very fast car” : Peter Windsor highlights how Ferrari should shift their focus

Ferrari driver Carlos Sainz's F1-75 after his engine caught fire in the Austrian Grand Prix

Red Bull Racing and Ferrari appear to be in a war this year over reliability as well as on the track. Ferrari appeared to have the better car after the season’s first few races, but Red Bull has demonstrated that they are significantly superior in terms of long-term dependability since the Spanish Grand Prix.

As he describes in his debrief on YouTube, Peter Windsor concurs. After Ferrari driver Carlos Sainz had to retire his F1-75 due to engine issues that even resulted in the engine catching fire, he thinks it is crucial that Ferrari can control reliability in the upcoming races. Windsor thought it must be a pain for the Italians that Sainz had to flee to escape getting trapped in the flames.

The season now opens up and from the French Grand Prix onwards they look like they’ve got a really quick car. They’re continuing to develop it with very small upgrades as the basic package at Ferrari has been brilliant right from the start,” said Windsor.

Therefore, even though the changes are good, the reliability may use some work. The problem of course has been reliability, and again we saw that manifest itself with Carlos. Let’s hope that Ferrari get on top of that in terms of using engines throughout the year,” added the F1 journalist.

Because the Italians would incur grid penalties if additional engines were employed. The Maranello-based racing team is  already struggling with grid penalties with half the season remaining, which is not an excellent sign for Ferrari duo Carlos Sainz and Charles Leclerc.
