Charles Leclerc claimed his second victory of the season in the 2022 Australia GP. The Ferrari driver extended his lead in the Drivers Championship in first place with 71 points. Red Bull’s Sergio Perez finished second. Meanwhile, George Russell claimed his first podium finish as a Mercedes driver as the Briton finished 3rd in the race.

While Leclerc leads the Championship with two fantastic victories so far, his teammate Carlos Sainz hasn’t achieved the same feat of success. The Spaniard is 3rd on the driver’s standings while his Monagesque teammate leads the championship standings.

Mattia Binotto says the two are open to challenging each other till the chequered flag in the forthcoming Emilia Romagna Grand Prix. The Ferrari Boss concluded by saying, “I will enjoy, then, the battle for a good and fair position in the championship.”

Carlos Sainz finished P2 and P3 in the season openers in Bahrain and Jeddah. After two consecutive podiums, Sainz retired early in the Australian GP on the 2nd lap of the race after losing control and getting stuck in the gravel in turn 10 while Charles Leclerc claimed the victory. Ferrari Team Principal Mattia Binotto says the two can resume racing as soon as the lights go green in Imola.

Binotto said, “They are free to fight and that is important for us. For Carlos, I think it is really important for him to put the speed and the pace and I think it really will come back. Charles is very focused right now, he is driving very well. Last year was important for him and for his growth and if you look as well in terms of tyre management he has been very good.”

Ferrari is on course to cement their lead on the championship as Leclerc claims their and his second win of the 2022 season. And the Scuderia, comfortably sit on top of the Constructor’s championship with a 49 point lead on Mercedes in second place. Leclerc leads the drivers’ championship by 34 points which is more than anyone did during any point in the 2021 season. And the Italian team will be looking to increase their advantage with another strong performance in Imola for the Emilia Romagna GP on April 22-24.
