Having won 2 world championships already, nothing is stopping Fernando Alonso from going for a third star to add to the legacy that he has created in Formula 1. While he currently races with Alpine (formerly known as Renault) the Spaniard announced during the summer break that he will be joining Aston Martin next year after rejecting contract proposals from Alpine.
It was suspected that the French team wanted Fernando Alonso to stay for just one more year before they could bring in Oscar Piastri to take the reign. What followed went on to ruin any plans that the French team had for both the individuals. With Sebastian Vettel announcing his retirement, Fernando didn’t miss the chance on a golden opportunity as he grabbed it as soon as he could.
The 2022 F1 season has been a bit tough on Alpine as they are locked in a battle with McLaren for 4th place in the constructors. The tension between Fernando Alonso and his teammates is never null so it wasn’t surprising to look at the events that took place during the Brazil GP sprint round. With both the drivers compromising their race fighting each other.

The Spaniard was keen on believing that his employer for 2023 was serious and will stay true to their words. When asked if Aston Martin could beat his current team in the constructors championship next year, Fernando Alonso said “100%,” as he answered the reporters.
He furthermore went on to talk about his new team’s goals moving into 2023. “Aston Martin are not here to finish fifth, or sixth, or fourth in the Constructors’ Championship. They are here to win the World Championship and that’s what we will be trying to do in 2023 and 2024,” he said.
Fernando Alonso has amassed a total of 71 points till now in this season as we come into the penultimate round of the season. With Aston Martin collecting just 49 points in total as a team, it puts speculation over their success in the coming years. With a new factory about to be completed, maybe things will take a turn for the the better when it comes to Aston Martin. Till then, all Nando can do is hope that the British team makes a good car for next year.
