“They did that really fantastic” : Max Verstappen lauds Red Bull for crucial strategy in the Monaco GP
Red Bull driver Max Verstappen
Max Verstappen finished third in the Monaco Grand Prix, which was better than he could have anticipated for after his qualifying session in the Circuit de Monaco. The Dutchman was pleased with the outcome, but believes that Red Bull Racing still has considerable work to do.
Although Ferrari ruled the entire weekend in Monaco, when the points were tallied, both Red Bull drivers were in front of at least one Ferrari. Red Bull put the Italian-based team under stress during the race, and they made some wrong decisions. Charles Leclerc, in particular, suffered greatly after finishing fourth due to errors in the strategy put forth by Ferrari.
”If you just looked at the pace over one lap, they (Ferrari) were faster than us. The long run says nothing here, because nobody is really pushing. It’s just about qualifying here. It doesn’t matter so much how fast you are in the race, because you can’t overtake anyway,” said the reigning F1 World Champion in the post-race interview on Sunday.

”Today was really about strategy and making the right decisions. I have to say that the team was relaxed with the decisions. Very clear. There was no doubt: it was ‘now go in, we’ll go on that tyre’, and then ‘in again, we’ll go on that tyre now.’ They did that really fantastic,” added Verstappen who’s currently leading the 2022 Drivers’ Standings with 125 points under his belt.
The decisive choices taken by Red Bull put a lot of pressure on Ferrari, and the Italians lost a significant amount of ground. Perez advanced from third to first, and Verstappen advanced from fourth to third.
The 20 drivers and the 10 teams on the grid will now look forward to enjoying the two-week break they have in hand ahead of the Azerbaijan Grand Prix in the Baku City Circuit which will take place from 10 June-12 June.
