“They didn’t show my overtake on Lando which was a bit disappointing” : George Russell disappointed after ‘dicey’ battle with Lando Norris wasn’t broadcasted

Mercedes’ George Russell was “disappointed” that his tussle with Lando Norris was not televised during the 2022 Monaco Grand Prix at the Circuit de Monaco. The McLaren driver had pitted fairly late than Russell, and as the conditions dried, Norris glided across the trail of the Mercedes W13 as he exited the pits on cool and damp hard tyres.
Russell took advantage of his warmer tyres to claw well beyond his British rival on the run-up to Beau Rivage and then into Massenet. Unlike the other 21 races on the 2022 Formula One calendar, which are sponsored by F1’s own TV direction, the telecast is directed by race organisers Automobile Club de Monaco.
The overlooked activity reiterated a scene from last year’s race in Monaco, when a move between 4-time F1 World Champion Sebastian Vettel and AlphaTauri’s Pierre Gasly in a somewhat analogous way was cut short as directors cut to a playback of Vettel’s Aston Martin teammate Lance Stroll.

George Russell elaborates on his disappointment
“They didn’t show my overtake on Lando which was a bit disappointing. He came out of the pits in front of me and sort of chopped across and I managed to overtake him on the wet stuff so that was pretty nice,” said the 24-year-old British driver.
“It felt pretty dicey from within the car for Monaco in damp conditions, but obviously not good enough for the TV producer. So, next time!,” concluded Russell who clinched P5 in the 2022 Monaco Grand Prix right behind Ferrari’s Charles Leclerc in P4.

The drivers are currently on a two-week break until the commencement of the Azerbaijan Grand Prix at the Baku City Circuit. The Azerbaijan Grand Prix will see all the 20 drivers battle it out again on the streets of Baku from 10 June-12 June.
