“They try to slow us down in any way,” Max Verstappen defends Red Bull amidst budget cap saga
Max Verstappen
Max Verstappen, the reigning F1 World Champion, has recently come forward and defended Red Bull by indicating that his team did not go over the budget cap restrictions last year.
Red Bull has come under heavy criticism from the various F1 teams ever since the news of budget cap overspending has come out in public and while a few F1 team bosses have bashed the Milton-Keynes-based team, Max Verstappen believes that the other teams would do just about anything to bring them down.
The FIA’s recent announcement has led to a lot of chaos within the Red Bull ranks, but despite all the outside noise, the team has shown a firm stance and is adamant that they did not go over the budget last year.
As things stand, it is a common belief that the Austrian team has been offered an ‘accepted breach agreement’ by the FIA to which Red Bull is yet to respond.
Moreover, considering that Red Bull has made it pretty clear that they did not overspend, it is very unlikely that they are going to accept the ‘breach agreement’ that FIA has offered.
Max Verstappen’s take on the Red Bull and FIA saga
The United States Grand Prix is just around the corner, and from Max Verstappen and Co’s perspective, the timing of FIA’s report could not have been any worse, considering the Dutchman is going to Austin as the 2022 World champion.
Ahead of the three-day carnival, Max was recently asked to give his thoughts on Red Bull’s stance around the budget cap breach, and while sharing his opinion he said, “I mean nothing has been confirmed yet. But as a team, we know what we have to deal with. And I think we were clear on what we think was correct.“
Moreover, the 25-year-old was then asked to give his opinion on the other F1 team’s reaction to Red Bull’s overspending news and while stressing it, he said, “I think, it’s mainly because, of course, we have been doing well. They try to slow us down in any way possible, but at the end of the day, that’s how F1 works as well. Everyone is, at the end of the day, a bit hypocritical. I am fine with that.“
Max Verstappen has made it crystal clear that the other teams are going to do everything in their power to bring the Red Bull team down and considering how much the situation has escalated so far, it is going to be fascinating to see what shape the whole saga will take during the United States Grand Prix.
