“They will be a lot closer to F1,” Toto Wolff excited about the prospects of the new Formula E cars

The Sunday before the Miami GP, Monaco hosted the E-Prix, i.e., a Formula E main race, around the traditional street circuit of Monaco. There, Mercedes boss, Toto Wolff, was present too, by the German constructor’s electric side, which had won the championship in 2020-21.
With Formula E undergoing rapid development, Gen3 all-electric car was introduced for the sport. The Gen 3 cars will start competing in the Season 9 of the championship, starting next year, increasing the speeds and intensity of the competition.
Toto Wolff commented on this exciting upgrade, saying, “All-electric with a new generation of cars being launched, more powerful, more efficient, it’s a nice platform to play on. The Generation 3 will reach speeds of above 300 kilometers an hour in city circuits and therefore will come much closer to Formula One performance.”

In a recent meeting of the FIA’s F1 Commission, major upgrades for the engines were announced. The new power units that will be running from the 2026 season are to have up to 50% of electrical power and utilise 100% of sustainable fuel.
Wolff commented on these future upgrades, “In terms of a global platform, Formula One is really going from strength to strength… it’s an exciting platform that is also hybrid and will go 100 percent sustainable fuel by 2026, so I think we are in a good place with Formula One.”
The new power units are also supposed to be Attractive to new Power Unit Manufacturers, following which the recent announcement of Audi and Porche entering F1 was made by the Volkswagen CEO Herbert Diess. Both the premium brands will join the sport from 2026, already showing a good impact of the new guidelines issued by the FIA.
