“Things like this cannot happen” : Jos Verstappen rebukes the FIA for ‘getting stressed at the first sight of rain’
The Monaco Grand Prix 2022
Jos Verstappen slammed the FIA’s management of the Monaco Grand Prix, accusing the regulatory agency of ‘getting stressed’ after rain started to fall. Having followed a chaotic 65-minute postponement of Sunday’s race in the principality, reigning F1 World Champion Max Verstappen’s father has been unsparing in his condemnation of the FIA.
The initial 3 p.m. local commencement was cancelled as wet weather propositioned, and the race was red-flagged after a heavy downpour during two formation laps. Although several drivers have supported the FIA on safety grounds, the former Arrows driver has contended against it.

“To be honest, I wasn’t left with a good feeling about the race weekend in Monaco. And that’s putting it mildly. Firstly, I think they should have just started at three o’clock. These days it seems that everyone at race control gets stressed at the first sight of a few drops of rain. Sure, it would have been a chaotic start and the teams would have been in doubt as to which tyre would have been the best option. But that is what people want to see,” stated the Dutch former racing driver.

Jos Verstappen continues his harsh criticism of the FIA
The red-flag postponement emerged exorbitant at the time, with the safety car refusing to enter the Circuit de Monaco even as conditions improved. After Red Bull driver Sergio Perez emerged victorious, it was revealed that a power failure had booted out the starting mast and race control, necessitating a relaunch of the systems.
Because of the malfunction, there was no grid start after the initial formation laps or after a mid-race red-flag time frame when the track was significantly drier. Jos Verstappen added to his scrutiny, “It turned out there were also problems with the starting lights.”

“[The] FIA or the organisation, whoever is responsible, should make sure there is a back-up for situations like this and that the equipment is in order. Now we get starts behind the safety car, which in my view takes the edge off. Especially on a circuit like Monaco. We live in a competitive, professional sport. Things like this cannot happen,” concluded Verstappen.
