It was a rocky start to the 2022 season for Max Verstappen with two dnf’s in the first 3 races. After the Australian Grand Prix, Charles Leclerc’s lead on the Dutch driver had increased tremendously and it did not seem like he would be able to catch up. After the first 3 races, it seemed like Redbull had really bad reliability even though they had the pace to fight at the front. After Australia, it all changed as the team figured out it’s issues and Ferrari in turn started to mess up big time. This gave a big time advantage to Redbull who made the most of it.

Max Verstappen currently has an 80 point lead over title rival Charles Leclerc. The Dutch driver has won 8 of the 13 rounds that took place in the 2022 season. The record for most races won in a season is 13 which was last set by Sebastian Vettel in 2013. Max has 8 races left in the second half of the season. Winning 5 of them would mean that he has effectively matched that record. Redbull has been on a charge where they have capitalised on Ferrari’s mistakes and are currently leading the constructors championship with a 97 point lead over the Maranello based outfit. The remainder of the season will be crucial for Ferrari if they have any chance of winning both the titles.

Max Verstappen comes to Spa after winning the race the last time F1 raced in Belgium. With heavy rains preventing racing action, the FIA decided to do a few laps behind the safety car and cancelled the race in the end where they gave half points to everyone for their efforts. As Verstappen had qualified first, he was handed the race win on sunday. This weekend, the Redbull driver is all charged up and ready for the challenge.

“This is my favourite circuit. Always was, although the results here were often disappointing. The track often didn’t suit our car, but this year we have a high top speed. So it looks pretty good, if nothing goes wrong,” he said.

Max was adamant that he has not reached his peak yet and that he wants to stay sharp until the last race of his career.
“I will look back when I have finished racing. That’s how the whole team thinks,” said Verstappen.

After almost a month of the F1 Summer break, it will be interesting to see what happens in the second half of the season. Will Max Verstappen be able to hold on to his lead or will Ferrari strike back with Charles Leclerc? It’s all to play for in the remainder of 2022 and it’s gonna be a spectacle for sure.
