Red Bull Racing seems to be going through a difficult period lately. Team Principal Christian Horner faced an investigation against claims of inappropriate behavior. After the 50-year-old was cleared of all charges, Red Bull Motorsport Consultant Dr. Helmut Marko claimed that he could be suspended in the coming days. Now, Mercedes’ Toto Wolff has commented on the possibility of Marko’s exit.

Marko has been accused of leaking the news of Horner’s investigation to Dutch media. Although, the 80-year-old has not commented on the allegations directly. Toto Wolff claimed that if Helmut Marko had to leave Red Bull, it would be a massive loss for Milton Keynes. It must be noted that the Red Bull advisor is an employee of Red Bull’s parent company and not the F1 team.

If the team loses Helmut, it would certainly be a loss for Red Bull and for the team.

Moreover, Wolff mentioned that Marko remains the favorite enemy of the Silver Arrows. The 80-year-old has been an influential figure in the paddock for almost two decades with a fierce rivalry with Mercedes. Additionally, it was Helmut Marko who managed to get Max Verstappen into the Red Bull driver family despite attempts made by Brackley.

Helmut Marko’s exit could force Max Verstappen to leave Red Bull

Max Verstappen is undoubtedly one of the best drivers in F1 history. The three-time world champion has dominated the sport in recent years including a record-breaking 2023 campaign. However, Verstappen has remained loyal to Helmut Marko over the years. So much so, that the 26-year-old could consider leaving if Marko is shown the door.

Moreover, Verstappen has been rumored to be in talks with Mercedes over a possible move for 2025. The 26-year-old remains contracted to Red Bull till at least the end of 2028. However, Helmut Marko’s investigation form the perfect situation for Max Verstappen to join the Silver Arrows. The three-time world champion is believed to have an exit clause for an immediate exit.

Certainly, Helmut Marko plays an important role at Red Bull. The 80-year-old’s relationship with Max Verstappen gives him even more power at Milton Keynes. However, it will be interesting to see how things go in the investigation against Marko in the coming days.
