Fernando Alonso

Fernando Alonso has been the talk of the town after he decided to leave Alpine for Aston Martin. He might be 41 but looking at his performances on the track, any team would like to have him the driver line-up. The Spaniard has 41 points to his name and finds himself behind Valtteri Bottas in 10th place in the driver’s championship. This is something commendable for someone his age.

Recently, four time world champion, Sebastian Vettel, decided to quit F1 at the end of the season which means Aston Martin was on the look out for drivers. Most of the people expected them to look at the future and go for a driver that would be younger. But, with Lance Stroll in their ranks already, Aston Martin decided that they wanted to go for the more consistent and reliable Fernando Alonso.

What this meant was Alpine were forced to find a driver for themselves. Oscar Piastri was one name that was linked with Alpine even when Fernando Alonso decided to leave. Knowing the relationship, Alpine sent out a statement which confirmed the signing of the Australian. But, to their embarrassment, Oscar Piastri denied the fact that any agreement was reached between the two parties.

Oscar Piastri took to Twitter and clarified that he was not going to drive for Alpine next season as there were no negotiations. He wrote, “I understand that, without my agreement, Alpine F1 have put out a press release late this afternoon that I am driving for them next year.

“This is wrong and I have not signed a contract with Alpine for 2023. I will not be driving for Alpine next year.”

This statement by him has given a chance for fans across the world to take a dig at Alpine. Fernando Alonso was caught in the crossfire after he posted a picture with a thumbs up. The fans reacted to it by saying, “The timing of Alonso‘s story,” with a laughing emoji.

The story by Oscar Piastri has gone viral and fans have taken this opportunity to make all types of jokes. If we look at it, it’s only fair as the situation between Oscar and Alpine is embarrasing.
