Max Verstappen has dominated the 2022 F1 season and with the Abu Dhabi GP just around the corner, Jos Verstappen has delved into the fond memories of his son’s maiden F1 triumph.

Max Verstappen went into the race, level on points with Lewis Hamilton in 2021, but was able to come as the Champion, despite the race having a controversial ending at the Yas Marina Circuit.

A lot was made about how the race panned out for Max and Lewis, but Jos looks at the event with a humble heart as, despite the controversy, what mattered to him was that his son won the Championship.

Moreover, the F1 extravaganza has once again reached Abu Dhabi, and senior Verstappen while talking about the memories of 2021, recently added, “Absolutely. All flashbacks, sure. Unbelievable what happened then. The run-up. First that race in Jeddah. But especially since I was sitting here in the office during the race and didn’t like it at all.”

“And then the discharge. I still remember every detail. I know it still hurts for some; that they can’t handle it. But be honest: Max deserved that championship anyway.”

Max Verstappen would once again look to win the Abu Dhabi GP

Max Verstappen won the 2021 Abu Dhabi GP under a huge cloud of controversy that lasted until the start of the current campaign.

The Dutchman being at the center of all the noise is well aware of everything that was said back then and about the actions of certain Mercedes personnel.

Considering all this, the 25-year-old would go into the upcoming race with a chip on his shoulders to shut everybody’s yapping mouths, by putting on a dominating display.

However, it is easier said than done, as looking at what happened in Sao Paulo, Mercedes has become a serious threat alongside Ferrari, and it will be a three-way fight for the win in Abu Dhabi.

The qualifying session is going to be extremely crucial and would be fascinating to see whether Max Verstappen would manage to land his RB18 in the pole position one last time during the current campaign.
