Alex Albon and Helmut Marko
Alex Albon has put in a plethora of impressive performances this year. Williams Racing came under the leadership of James Vowles from the 2023 Season as the Brit left Mercedes to pursue this opportunity. For a team that has been working hard on getting points this season, the Thai driver has helped a lot as he has earned 7 points for the team. There have been seasons where the team barely had a few points and this season seems to be different.
With the duo of Alex Albon and Logan Sargeant, Williams has been on a push to get to the upper midfield following a recent rise in performances. Alex has been frequently getting into Q3 which is very commendable for Williams considering their past. It is evidently clear that Alex is leading and carrying the team for now. Helmut Marko has been impressed with the Thai driver so far but reveals that there is nothing he can do to sign him again.
In an interview, here is what he had to say about Alex Albon. “The Williams is now a fast car, and in combination with Albon it is now actually Q3 capable. I think Alex is doing a great job,” he said. “[He] is unfortunately tied to Williams until the end of 2025,” says Marko about the former Red Bull driver. Now this gets a bit interesting as it has been known to the public at Alex is contracted to Williams until 2024.

Alex Albon came to F1 in 2019 with Torro Rosso. In the first half of the season itself, he was promoted to Red Bull Racing and pitted against Max Verstappen. The Thai driver was with the team for a year and half until he got replaced by Sergio Perez for the 2021 season. It seemed like Alex just wasn’t able to compete with Max and seemingly had issues adapting to the car.
On the other hand, it seems like Albon has finally found his groove with Williams and it’s evident during the British GP weekend. Having been in the top 3 throughout the sessions, Alex went on to qualify P8 at Silverstone. On the other hand, Sergio Perez will be starting the race in P15 so it as been an interesting turn of events for the two drivers. It will be interesting to see what happens on race day. Williams will love a good result for their 800th GP start.
