Valtteri Bottas admits being distracted by Mercedes Duo in his rear mirror at Miami GP

The Miami Grand Prix is concluded and completes the fifth round of the Formula 1 2022 season. The inaugural race at the venue was a successful event for the sport and definitely could use some tweaks for betting racing action. The start of the race was the only spectacle of overtaking that the fans witnessed and it just seemed like a track where the passing opportunities were limited. However, a late safety car in the race resulted in the field bunching up and we were treated the some great overtaking manoeuvres.

Alfa Romeo driver, Valtteri Bottas had a great start as he took P5 in the first corner of the track. The Finnish driver had a lonely outing for the rest of the grand prix, managing his race in the same position comfortably. Nevertheless, the safety car resulted in Bottas finding the two Mercedes cars of Lewis Hamilton and George Russell on his tail. The Fin admitted he was distracted by the silver arrows in his rear view mirrors which caused him to clip the wall in turn 17 and lose two positions. Bottas said, “Everything was going really smoothly, I was hoping for that kind of race, until the safety car.”

Valtteri Bottas Confident Of Keeping The Mercedes At Bay Without The Safety Car

The Alfa Romeo driver was smoothly running ahead of the Mercedes of Lewis Hamilton for the majority of the Miami Grand Prix. When the safety car occurred, Valtteri was in P6 ahead of Lewis, but behind George who was yet to make his pit stop. The safety car presented Russell with a free pit stop about which the Fin said “When George got the fresh tyres, then it changed everything, so [it was] a bit unlucky for me that safety car but that’s how it is.”

However, he still managed to cross the chequered flag in P7 and score solid 6 points for his team. The Fin assessed his performance by saying “It was a good recovery from Friday and the race pace was very close to Mercedes so it is good to see that we can really fight with them. It’s a shame we didn’t get P5 but, still, P7 is good.”

To summarise his maiden race in Miami he added “It was a race where there was no DNFs in front of me. It was fighting for fifth position with this car here, and then we’ll see in Barcelona, where we’ll try to bring some new bits.” Currently, Valtteri Bottas looks to be in great run of form as he is scoring for his new team week in and week out. He has shown his talents after being swapped by Mercedes and is enjoying the security of a multi-year in Formula 1.
