“That was an unbelievable lap,” Helmut Marko ‘immensely satisfied’ with Max Verstappen’s spectacular qualifying performance
Helmut and Max
Helmut Marko the Red Bull team adviser has been left in awe of Max Verstappen after his Belgium qualifying and, has indicated that the Dutchman will have a very good chance of scoring a podium tomorrow.
However, Helmut Marko feels that Sergio Perez could have done better than his P3 finish behind Sainz and Verstappen. The Austrian’s disappointment stems from the fact that Max Verstappen’s car was tuned as per race simulation and still he was able to go faster than Sergio Perez.
While talking about Verstappen’s qualifying performance, Marko said, “You can overtake here and we have set it [Verstappen’s car] up so that we have a very good top speed, also because of the DRS, and with that, he should be able to at least get close to the podium.”
Max was able to land his RB18 in pole position at the end of qualifying and Marko further added, “We are very positively surprised by how great it was here. That was an unbelievable lap, completed so easily, without any hesitation.”

Helmut Marko’s take on Sergio Perez’s lackluster performance during qualifying
While Max was quickly able to get to grips with the Spa-Francorchamps circuit, his teammate Sergio found it difficult to get to grips with it and was not able to match the timings of his prolific teammate and ended up behind Carlos Sainz for tomorrow’s race.
At the end of qualifying, Marko was utterly disappointed with the Mexican’s performance and while dwelling on it said, “As a South American, Checho generally has many ups and downs.”
Sergio Perez after showing a lot of promise during the early part of the season has slowly started to fade away and this has become a major cause of concern for the Red Bull outfit.
However, the Belgian Grand Prix could prove to be his way back into form as he has not got Max Verstappen and Charles Leclerc to worry about and only has to contend with the challenge of Carlos Sainz.
The two drivers are starting 1-2 on the grid and considering that Red Bull has proven to be faster than Ferrari at Spa, it is going to be interesting to see whether Sergio Perez would be able to overtake the Spaniard going into Turn1.
