Sergio Perez had high ambitions for the Mexican GP. The 33-year-old hoped to bounce back after some disappointing results in recent rounds. Critics believed that the race was the prime opportunity for Checo to redeem himself. However, things did not go well for Perez with the Mexican driver being in a sad state after his retirement from the race.
The 33-year-old collided with Ferrari’s Charles Leclerc heading into Turn 1. Perez almost went airborne after the incident and incurred heavy damage on his RB-19. Subsequently, the Mexican driver was forced to retire his car after coming back to the Red Bull garage. Checo seemed to be in despair as seen on a clip posted on X.
The Mexican driver’s eyes appear tearful in the video. Sergio Perez even tried to brush something off his eyes with his gloves while he was inside the RB-19 cockpit. Although, Checo’s face was not fully visible because of the crash helmet. One would believe that the 33-year-old was certainly in a sorrowful state, perhaps even on the verge of crying.

Is it all over for Sergio Perez?
Sergio Perez is contracted to Red Bull till the end of the 2024 F1 season. Red Bull consultant Dr. Helmut Marko has insisted that the Mexican driver would continue to partner with Max Verstappen next season despite the disappointing result in Mexico. However, the Austrian team has been infamous for swapping drivers irrespective of their contracts.
Daniel Ricciardo is seen as the prime option to replace Checo at Milton Keynes. The Australian driver had a remarkable weekend in Mexico City and even out-qualified Perez. As such, rumors have begun to surface that Red Bull might be ready to replace Sergio Perez with the Honey Badger next season after a great result for AlphaTauri.
Certainly, things have gone from bad to worse for Sergio Perez. The Mexican driver has lost the best opportunity to deliver a solid result for the team. As such, Checo would be facing enormous pressure for the remainder of the 2023 season. However, it remains to be seen if Perez can save his F1 career by the end of the year.
