Carlos Sainz had a disastrous start to the Las Vegas GP. The Spanish driver incurred heavy damage within the first ten minutes of on-track running in Sin City due to a manhole cover. Subsequently, this brought an end to the session with a red flag. The 29-year-old made a visit to his side of the Ferrari garage shortly after the team started repairing the SF23.
Sainz met his team and asked them about how they were feeling. The Ferrari garage was completely focused on getting a new chassis ready for the Spanish driver by the second practice session. Scuderia Ferrari posted on X that showed Carlos Sainz conversing with his fellow team members regarding the car.
The Spanish driver looked concerned about his SF23 as the team tried to get it up and running before FP2 at the Las Vegas GP. Sainz tried to thank his team members for putting in their best efforts throughout the night in Sin City. Thankfully, the Ferrari crew managed to get the car ready for the second practice session. With Carlos Sainz finishing second in the timing sheets. On the other hand, Charles Leclerc led the pack with P1 in the session.

Carlos Sainz to have a ten-place grid penalty for the Las Vegas GP
Ferrari was forced to change the chassis of Sainz’s car after the FP1 incident. This led to the FIA imposing a ten-place grid penalty on the Spanish driver for Sunday’s race. Although, Maranello tried to get an exemption from the stewards in light of the circumstances, the sports governing body admitted that it would have to follow the rulebook.

Carlos Sainz was disappointed to hear the news of the grid drop. The 29-year-old claimed that he was being penalized for something that was not his fault. Subsequently, the Spanish driver was not happy with the Las Vegas GP weekend despite being optimistic about his prospects before the start of the weekend.

The Ferrari driver will be forced to make his way up the grid during the Las Vegas GP. Carlos Sainz showed decent pace behind the wheel of the SF23 during the second practice session. This could allow the Spanish driver to potentially charge through the field on Sunday. Although, it remains to be seen how things pan out for Sainz in the main race.
