Charles Leclerc and teammate Carlos Sainz discuss their professional lives at Ferrari, the influence of Netflix’s Drive to Survive, the perils of F1, and more in the first Hype issue of GQ, which is devoted to some of the most classic and intriguing people, product lines, initiatives, and opinions in the industries of fashion, sports, music, cinema, TV, personal care, and technology.

Leclerc and Sainz, two young rapidly rising motorsport celebrities whose accounts have been boosted by the famous Netflix Formula 1 series Drive to Survive, have a reasonable plan of reintroducing championship titles to the Maranello-based racing team after a prolonged hiatus. Since the start of their careers, both have made significant progress.

When Charles Leclerc, a brilliant and perceptive 24-year-old Monegasque, came to Maranello to see the Ferrari sanctuary, he only made it as far as one of the entrance points. He was 11 or 12 years old and was accompanied by a family friend who used to work in the facility at the time, but he did not enter.

“So I sat in the parking lot for two hours and in the meantime I tried to imagine what
the inside of the venue was like. In my mind I figured I was admiring a structure similar to
the one seen in Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, you know? With the Oompa Loompas
running around,” recalls Leclerc fondly.

For the cover of this GQ issue, Leclerc shows his fashionable side as he dons a chic black leather jacket from the house of Giorgio Armani. He complements his entire look with a couple of gloves in Ferrari’s colours as he’s seen holding his helmet.
