Max Verstappen and Sergio Perez have the fastest car on the 2023 F1 grid. Both drivers have the privilege of racing the monstrous Red Bull RB-19 at the pinnacle of motorsport. However, Verstappen has achieved much more than his teammate with the same car. A comparison of onboard footage from both cars gives insight into the different driving styles of the two.
A video was posted on X that compared the driving style of Verstappen and Perez at the Qatar GP. Viewers can notice that the three-time world champion takes a smoother approach to the corners than his teammate. Moreover, Sergio Perez has had to wrestle the steering wheel to get the optimum line. Checo even makes more attempts to turn his wheel.
Additionally, the footage shows that Perez’s helmet moves around much more than Verstappen in the cockpit. This indicates that Max Verstappen has a calmer ride behind the wheel than his teammate. However, these differences can hint to fans about the massive pace deficit between drivers. However, a difference in set-up might have been a cause for this as well.

Fans claim RB-19 is tailored for Max Verstappen
Fans on Twitter were not happy with this comparison. One user reckoned that the footage proves the Adrian Newey-designed RB-19 was built to suit Max Verstappen. The user wrote, “Proof a car built to favor one driver.” Another fan speculated about Sergio Perez not having the same car as his teammate. The fan said, “Checo’s car has it been doctored.”

Moreover, one fan believed that it appears as if Red Bull developed the RB-19 completely around the three-time world champion. The fan replied, “Almost like the car is tailored to Max.” Another user joked about the sheer difference between the two drivers, claiming that Verstappen was on a calm drive while Perez was hitting rallying circuits. The user commented, “Max is on a Sunday drive while Checo is going rallying.”

Max looks like he's driving the family station wagon on cruise control on the way to Disneyland.

Reading the Max biography at the moment gives insight to this. Although Red Bull have tried to build the fastest car, not a Max specific one, it happens to be that the fastest car is one Max likes. Turns in well with a lively rear. And other drivers don’t like this set up.

It kinda looks like Perez doesn’t have power steering.

Like my Daddy said. Smooth is fast.

Tyre compound
Tyre degradation
Car setup
Throttle/Braking differences
Etc.
Certainly, the footage has raised questions amongst fans online. However, one must note that there seems to be no information regarding the particular lap or conditions of the comparison. As such, Max Verstappen and Sergio Perez might have been on different set-ups and strategies in their respective onboards. Nevertheless, this comparison will remain a topic of debate for the foreseeable future.
