Sergi Perez had high expectations for his home race in Mexico City. The 33-year-old looked to bounce back from a string of poor results in front of the local fans. Checo had hoped to bring in a solid result for Red Bull. However, Perez will go home disappointed after a disastrous start to the race that forced him to retire on the first lap.
The Mexican driver started P5 right behind Max Verstappen and Daniel Ricciardo on the second row. Perez got off to a great start as the five red lights went out. The 33-year-old tried to go on the outside of Charles Leclerc and Verstappen as they went three-wide into Turn 1. Unfortunately, this led to contact between Checo and the Ferrari.

Perez’s car almost went airborne as he collided with Leclerc. The 33-year-old was forced to take the escape road and return the car to the pits. However, the damage was too much for the Red Bull pit crew. Subsequently, Checo had to retire the car in front of his home fans, perhaps the biggest nightmare for the Red Bull driver.
Creo que el la mayoría de los pilotos hubieran intentado la maniobra, estaba el hueco y ya estaba por delante.
