Qualifying at the Monaco Grand Prix is an affair of utmost importance. It sets the grid for a race where overtaking opportunities are as rare as they come. This is due to the nature of thin, twisting nature of the circuit. Given the large size of the cars, passing on track in an uphill task and the inclusion of a single DRS zone don’t help the cause.
Lando Norris pushed hard through Q1 and Q2 while suffering a small incident in the latter. He couldn’t slow the car down sufficiently in sector three, and as a result, he had a brush with the barriers, slightly damaging the suspension of his car. Nonetheless, the garage mechanics worked well to get his car ready in time for Q3.
Norris gave it his all throughout qualifying to secure McLaren a spot in the top half of the grid with P10, which gives them a good opportunity to score points on Sunday’s race, minimal as they may be. His teammate Oscar Piastri, whom he barely edged out, will begin the race just behind him in P11. The team has improved since their disastrous Miami GP and looks more competitive.
This was how fans on Twitter reacted to Lando Norris’ bathroom break between Q1 and Q2

Lando Norris put a shift in to get his McLaren into Q3. The McLaren team has been struggling recently and has been among the backmarkers on the grid. The Maimi GP, in particular, seemed to be a new low, with qualifying and the race looking dismal. Nonetheless, they seem to have improved well before the Monaco GP, as they appear much quicker and more confident.
An incident in particular during qualifying that captivated fans’ attention was Lando Norris. After Q1 and just preceding Q2, the driver appeared to quickly leap out of his car and rush to the loo while the other drivers prepared to line up in the pitlane. Fans found this quite hilarious, and this is how they voiced their reactions to the incident on Twitter:
Regardless of this amusing incident, the Englishman managed to push through and secure McLaren a spot among the top half of the grid. He will be hopeful of securing some solid points race day alongside his teammate Oscar Piastri. This would be a big morale boost for the McLaren garage.
