Lewis Hamilton is statistically the most successful driver in Formula 1 history. The British driver holds the record for the most number of race victories and matches Michael Schumacher with seven F1 world titles. However, it has been a long journey for the 7-time world champion who debuted in 2007 with McLaren. Hamilton took a look back at his personal growth over the past decade.
The Mercedes driver recalled joining the Silver Arrows in 2013 after leaving Woking. The 38-year-old opened up about having a difficult time dealing with issues that he had no proper mechanisms to cope with. He said in a PETRONAS Motorsports event, “I look back, and I see someone that was massively driven. but someone that was struggling with a lot of things and didn’t have the tools to cope with some of the things I was experiencing.”
Lewis Hamilton mentioned that in the past few years, he has focused on improving himself as a driver and a teammate. Hamilton had a rather strained relationship as teammates with Nico Rosberg during his early years at Mercedes. The Briton explained, “So I’ve really spent a lot of the last six years doing a lot of self-work and how I can be a better teammate and a better person.”

Lewis Hamilton admits he is still making mistakes
The 7-time world champion was happy to be where he is today. Lewis Hamilton has solidified his place in the history books as one of the best drivers the world has ever seen. The Mercedes driver did not shy away from admitting that he was not perfect. Hamilton claimed that even after staying in the sport for a decade and a half, he still makes mistakes.
Hamilton concluded, “I definitely would say I’m proud of where I am today. Still making mistakes but that’s okay.” Certainly, the British driver has come a long way over the past decade as he shattered dozens of records in Formula 1. Moreover, the 38-year-old did establish better relationships with Valtteri Bottas and George Russell as his teammates at the Silver Arrows after a troubled time with Nico Rosberg.
Thus, Lewis Hamilton mentioned that he put effort into becoming a better teammate after a massive rivalry with Nico Rosberg. Rosberg retired from F1 in 2016 after defeating the Briton for the world title. In the years since, Hamilton has tried to have more friendly relationships with his teammates. The 38-year-old has succeeded in avoiding major conflicts at Brackley ever since.
