The Mercedes Formula 1 team is in an intense battle with Ferrari for second place in the 2023 Constructors Championship. While the battle between the two great outfits is expected to go down to the wire, Williams driver Alex Albon has recently bashed George Russell for his massive points gap to Lewis Hamilton in the driver’s tussle.

George Russell shocked the world during the 2022 season when he outperformed Lewis Hamilton at Mercedes. It was Russell’s rookie campaign with the team, and at the end of the season, several pundits applauded him for his exploits. However, regarding the ongoing campaign, the former 7-time world champion has hit back.

Looking at the comments of Albon, it is quite clear that Albon did not hold back even a tiny bit in bashing Russell for his points gap to Lewis Hamilton in the 2023 standings. The latter has so far managed to score a brilliant 190 points with five podium finishes, whereas the 25-year-old has fought his way to only 115 in the same number of 2023 outings.

George Russell has six remaining in 2023 to end his campaign on a strong note

While George Russell has not found it easy to cope with the might of Lewis Hamilton this year, all is not lost for the young Brit, as there are still six races remaining in the 2023 campaign. These are enough outings for Russell to make sure that he ends his campaign on a high note and scores as many points as possible in the remaining events.

As things stand, the 25-year-old is currently eighth in the driver’s championship, and if he can make his way up in the standings, it would also help Mercedes keep a hold of its second place in the Constructors Championship. Ferrari is in hot pursuit of the German outfit, and it needs both its drivers firing on both cylinders for the rest of the 2023 campaign.

Next up is the Qatar Grand Prix, which will take place at the free-flowing Lusail International Circuit; considering this fact, it could prove to be the perfect launching pad for George Russell to get his 2023 campaign back on track. Only six races are remaining from Qatar onward, and several eyes are going to be on the exploits of the Mercedes drivers.
