Liam Lawson, the Red Bull junior driver had an opportunity to drive the legendary RB7. He completed a demonstration run at the Mount Panorama Circuit in Bathurst, Australia. The 20-year-old fired up the championship-winning RB7 at the circuit. This comes less than 24 hours after the Red Bull team launched their 2023 car in New York.

The RB7 was all revved up around Mount Panorama. This V8-powered engine was a delight to the fans who witnessed Lawson take it on track. It is the same car in which Sebastian Vettel won his second world championship in 2011. He also broke Nigel Mansell’s record for most poles in a season.

The New Zealander got quite comfortable with the car although the first lap felt daunting due to the elevation. He successfully completed his run right before the Bathurst 12-hour event. Earlier Lawson had mentioned that his invite to drive the RB7 came as a complete surprise. The Bathurst 12-hour YouTube channel uploaded the demonstration.

In 2011, when Vettel won the championship in that car Lawson was 9 years old and watched him race. Today the young man got to take the car out for a ride in Mount Panorama. This is a wonderful opportunity for the driver and a celebration for the avid Formula 1 fans who enjoy the sound of the V8 engine.

It is worth noting that, the 20-year-old Lawson began karting when he was only 7 years old. Competing across various championships in New Zealand, Lawson had two titles to his name when he was just 12 years old.

Prior to his run Lawson had mentioned it will be his first time in Bathurst and he was very excited about racing on the track. To quote him, he had finally tackled the mountain in that car.  In 2022, Lawson had taken part in free practice sessions for Red Bull and AlphaTauri. The driver will be seen racing for Team Mugen in 2023, in the Japanese Super Formula Championship.
