In a poignant twist at the Dutch Grand Prix qualifying, Logan Sargeant‘s aspirations took a tumble. He met with a crash, abruptly ending his run after achieving a Q3 entry for the first time in his burgeoning career. Amid the wet conditions at Zandvoort, the Williams driver exhibited remarkable resilience. He clinched a spot in the top 10 shootout—a notable achievement for a rookie in his inaugural season.
During the climactic phase, like most of the grid, Williams chose to venture out on the slick soft tires. Logan Sargeant, posted an impressive time of 1:16.748 on his initial attempt, positioning himself second only to his teammate Alex Albon. However, mere moments after completing the lap, the American’s fortunes took a somber turn. Striking a damp patch, his car careened out of control, resulting in a heavy collision at Turn 2.
The impact took a toll on the front of the FW45, causing significant damage. With 8 minutes still on the clock, the unfolding drama brought Q3 to an abrupt halt. As the marshals worked to retrieve the Williams car, Sargeant emerged unassisted from his car, proving that he did not injure himself.

Logan Sargeant’s future with Williams’ under question as Mick Schumacher emerges as a potential replacement
Promising young driver Logan Sargeant’s debut at Williams has been lackluster, failing to make a significant impact. However, he has fallen short against teammate Alex Albon in critical performance metrics. There’s speculation that Sargeant might yield his spot to Mick Schumacher unless he demonstrates substantial improvement in the remaining ten races.
Hailing from the United States, Logan joined Williams’ ranks as a junior driver in late 2021. The team’s ownership transitioning from its original founders to the US private investment firm Dorilton Capital in 2020. Notably, in the 2022 US GP, former Williams team principal Jost Capito unveiled Sargeant’s promotion to F1 for 2023, contingent on securing requisite super license points. Sargeant accomplished this by participating in four 2022 F1 practice sessions and clinching fourth place in the F2 championship that year.
Following the 2022 Abu Dhabi GP, Sargeant was confirmed as a Williams driver for 2023; however, the announcement didn’t specify the length of the deal. Despite completing ten races in his inaugural season, Sargeant is yet to secure a single point on the scoreboard. Nevertheless, the new Williams team principal, James Vowles, publicly supports Sargeant’s efforts.
