Schumacher was following Guanyu Zhou and just as he exited turn 14 and was heading into turn 15, he lost the rear end suddenly which sent the car into a violent spin and Schumacher lost control of the car which went and hit the tecpro barriers on the outside of the Swimming pool chicane. The car broke into two with the gearbox and rear suspension breaking off from main chassis.
All the F1 racers worry about Mick Schumacher, but the young German makes it out of his car
The 22 year old German confirmed that he was safe as he soon got on to the radio and said “I don’t understand” expressing his failure to understand what had gone wrong. Schumacher was then shortly seen stepping out of the car as the other drivers sounded very worried with Guanyu Zhou asking on the radio repeatedly, “Is he okay?”
The Virtual Safety Car was put out right after the crash to neutralize the race and then it transformed into a full safety car as the cars needed to be packed up for the Marshalls to get a window to remove the broken Haas from the track.
After two laps behind the safety car, the session was red flagged as the barriers at the swimming pool chicance also needed to be fixed before racing can continue again.
Haas F1 Team thus have both of their drivers out of the Monaco Grand Prix as Magnussen had to retire his car a bit earlier due to a reported problem in water pressure in his car.
