WATCH: Sebastian Vettel surprises Daniel Ricciardo in the Red Bull garage before his tire test at Silverstone
Sebastian Vettel went on to give Daniel Ricciardo a surprise visit before his test at Silverstone.
Daniel Ricciardo and Sebastian Vettel
As the 2023 British GP concluded, there was still a lot of excitement as Daniel Ricciardo had a fun session liked up with Red Bull Racing. The Honey Badger was going to get a taste of the RB-19 as he was going to take part in the Pirelli tyre test conducted at Silverstone today. The team along with Christian Horner wanted to see his lap-times and compare them with other Red Bull drivers to see how competitive the Australian is.
Before heading out on track, Ricciardo was treated to a wholesome surprise visit by none other than Sebastian Vettel. The 4 time F1 world champion was at the track for an event where he got to drive the Legendary McLaren MP4. In the video, he can be seen explaining a few bits to Daniel before his run. Maybe his advice worked since the Aussie driver’s fastest lap was just 7 tenths slower than Max Verstappen which would have put him on the front row of the British GP.
“I’m really enjoying this year and I think I’ll continue to enjoy it, but by next year I think I’ll certainly be eager to get back on the grid and compete,” Daniel Ricciardo had stated before the tyre test. It wasn’t confirmed whether the Honey Badger would get a full time seat. However, it has now been revealed that Daniel will be replacing Nyck De Vries at AlphaTauri with immediate effect and will be competing as early as the Hungarian GP.
Sebastian Vettel and Daniel Ricciardo will be reunited yet again at Nurburgring
While their interaction was interesting, the two hotshots will be meeting again at the “green hell” later in the year. The two will be teammates and race together for a day at the Nurburgring for a spectacular Red Bull event taking place on September 9th. Daniel Ricciardo will be racing with the RB8 from 2012 whilst Sebastian Vettel will be racing a RB7 from 2011. The latter had won his second consecutive championship with that car.
It is indeed sad to see Nyck De Vries being sacked at such an early stage of the season. At a time when the circus hasn’t even reached the midpoint, it’s tough to see the Dutchman being sacked. On the other hand, Daniel Ricciardo has the rest of the season to prove that he is worthy of the seat. Whilst the possibility of him replacing Sergio Perez at Red Bull is bleak, it isn’t zero. It will be interesting too see what happens when the Honey Badger takes the wheel of the AlphaTauri in Hungary.
