The Canadian GP has always given fans a thrilling race. The 2023 Iteration of the race seems no different, with a major blow for Mercedes. George Russell had a great opportunity to score a good result as he started on the second row alongside teammate Lewis Hamilton. However, things have not gone well for the British driver in the race’s early stages.
The 25-year-old lost control in Turn 8 of the circuit and drove through the curb; this led his Mercedes W14 to go on straight and smash the wall on Turn 9. Russell went into the barrier and damaged his front wing. And potentially the right rear of the car. The Briton apologized to his team and was called to the pits to change his front wing under the safety car. He said, “Ahhh f***’s sake guys, sorry guys, sorry.”
George was battling Lewis Hamilton and Fernando Alonso for second place on Lap 12 of the race, . Unfortunately this incident severely hampered the 25-year-old’s chances at the Canadian GP after sliding down to the back of the pecking order. The Briton would certainly not be happy with this unacceptable mistake when fighting for a podium position.

Fans blame the sausage curbs for George Russell’s crash

Fans on Twitter were not happy with the incident. Some blamed the infamous sausage curbs for forcing the Briton into the wall. One fan said, “Get rid of the sausage kerbs”. While one user remarked about Russell considering himself better than Lewis Hamilton. The user wrote, “He accepted that he is driving faster than Hamilton these days”.
On the other hand, one fan believed that George Russell would blame the wall for causing this crash. The fan replied, “‘The wall just turned into me…’ -George Russell”. Another user wrote similarly, “George will probably blame the wall”. Another fan called this to be the most exciting moment of the Canadian GP till that point. They said, “Best moment in the race so far”.
Thus, George Russell has ruined his chances at the Canadian GP. The 25-year-old made a mistake that forced him to bin it to the wall. Subsequently, the Briton will have to make his way back up the pecking order in a bid to limit the damage done by the incident. Mercedes Team boss Toto Wolff would certainly will be looking to have a chat with Russell after the race.
