“We are at the front of the midfield” : Alpine has their eyes set on a top rank

Alpine
2-time Formula One World Champion Fernando Alonso is having a great season of racing. The Spaniard has collected points in each and every race since his home Grand Prix in Spain in 2022, following a rather challenging beginning to the season.
In Britain, Alonso improved his 2022 performance with a respectable fifth place. He now occupies position 10 in the drivers’ rankings, which is not indicative of his performance. The 40-year-old driver has not ranked lower than two ninth places since the Spanish Grand Prix. His best performance was at the Canadian GP qualifying, as he qualified his Alpine A522 in second place despite the weather.

Fernando Alonso’s future with Alpine in the talks

Alonso is delighted with the extensive array of improvements that Alpine F1 Team delivered to Silverstone. “The car was very good, I felt more competitive than ever compared to other races,” said Alonso.
Alonso is aware that Mercedes, Ferrari, Red Bull Racing, and Red Bull are still way ahead of the Enstone-based racing team. “But we are at the front, ahead of the other cars in the middle,” added the Alpine driver.
Although Alonso’s deal with Alpine expires in 2022, the Spaniard is still planning to compete in Formula 1. He intends to keep going for at least another two seasons. After the summer break, he plans to make an announcement about his career.
