“We are fighting with a team that is much smaller,” Toto Wolff unconcerned despite being outperformed by midfield battlers, Haas
Mercedes' Team Principal Toto Wolff
Toto Wolff feels Haas has done a good job in making a competitive car. Haas was not able to give a tough fight to most of the teams on the grid last year as they could merely score any points. Getting lapped again and again every weekend is not a good feeling and Haas must’ve done everything in their capacity to change their situation. Haas would either go on to crash, retire or even if they finished, their position was not good enough to get them points.
With the additional efforts from Kevin Magnussen, Haas has seen an upward trend of results. They have been performing brilliantly when compared to the previous season. They started off the season in style as Kevin Magnussen finished in the 5th position and Mick Schumacher only just missed out on points by 1 position. Moving on in the second race for the season, Magnussen finished in 9th and gained points over the rest of the grid.
Although Haas had an amazing start to the season, rumours suggest that the car is illegal. According to a strong rumour, Haas’ car is an imitation of the Ferrari F1-75. The car took the fans by shock as it was surprisingly very fast. This may be because it has the same engine, suspension and gearbox as Ferrari and thus both the cars are extremely fast this season.
Toto Wolff praises Haas’ efforts
In an interview, Toto Wolff said, “They have made a fascinating step. This is something for us to learn from. We have 2,000 employees and were successful with that. Suddenly we are fighting with a team that is much smaller. That’s a good job by them,” as per gpblog.
Even Alfa Romeo’s Boss is not worried as he expressed his trust in the FIA. After the first pointless race for Haas at Australia, they would be looking forward to capitalizing on the extra points available at Imola as the hype for the sprint race is insane. Even 1 extra point can turn out to be extremely crucial for the team and the driver.
