Ferrari team principal Mattia Binotto believes the team lost the Hungarian Grand Prix due to a lack of speed rather than a strategy error. On-track, Charles Leclerc passed Mercedes driver George Russell to take the lead. On lap 39, he made his second pit stop and changed to hard tyres. His race quickly devolved from there. Leclerc failed to keep Max Verstappen at bay and was forced to jettison his hard tyres and make a third pit stop for a set of softs, finishing sixth.

The team looked strong on Friday, when they practised in much hotter climates. Binotto also mentioned how the F1-75 wasn’t running how it was expected to at Budapest on Sunday. Here’s how the Tifosi are reacting on Twitter:

Swapping to hard compound tyres at Leclerc’s second pit stop exacerbated their issues, according to Binotto. The team anticipated that Leclerc would have a brief performance decline on the hard but would soon be in a stronger place than Verstappen, who was operating on mediums.
