Carlos Sainz started from the back of the grid after severing penalties for adding new parts to his engine. Despite being 19th on the grid, Carlos only took 13 Laps to get into the top 10 spots. He looked fantastic today being the fastest guy on the track. Carlos did his work on Saturday by giving his teammate a tow to the Pole position. He then covered all his work overtaking a bunch of cars and making his way to the top.

Carlos Sainz managed a P5 finish in the French GP. He was once in the fight for the podium after overtaking Sergio Perez and George Russell. But he was in bits for a five-second time penalty for an unsafe release from the pits. Despite the penalty, it is believed if Carlos carried on with his second stint on the Mediums till the end, he would have managed to get his podium. Anyhow, Ferrari decided to pit and serve his penalty on the pit with a tyre change from which Carlos came out in the 9th position. He then again managed his way to the Top 5 and ended his race in the 5th position marking it as a damage limitation.

“Every time there’s a tricky moment on the strategy we are discussing things, but we are not a disaster like people seem to say we are. It’s just, we like to discuss things, we are open about them – yes, I was in the middle of an overtake but the team believed that was the right lap to stop and come back through the field, “ clarified Carlos Sainz defending his team for the call to pit again after being in top3.

Mattia Binotto, Ferrari’s team principal is the one who is held responsible for every decision made by the team. No matter the good or bad it’s the boss who suffers the most for all the calls made by the team. He opens up with the call he took on Carlos to pit even though the driver was in the podium position.

“We don’t think he would’ve had the pace still to open the gap to five seconds – because he had a five-second penalty at the time. And by stopping he did as well the fastest lap which was also a point that was somehow granted. So I think that was the safest, and the right decision to take, ” explained Mattia Binotto calling it the safest option for the team to have made if they wished for a decent finish from the only Ferrari on track.

Charles Leclerc ruined his weekend after a mistake that took away his win at Paul Ricard. Being the only Ferrari on the track Carlos managed to get home some points but it’s still not enough. The gap to Red Bull has not increased to 84 points now.
