Ferrari’s Charles Leclerc and Carlos Sainz were the quickest two cars in the second free practice session at the Dutch GP. This was one of the surprises after what we witnessed at the Belgian GP. Red Bull were miles against the competition as Sergio Perez and Max Verstappen cruised to secure a 1-2 for the Milton Keynes outfit. The technical directive was expected to slow down Red Bull but that wasn’t the case.

Max Verstappen, despite taking the engine penalty, came back from P14 on the grid to win the Belgian GP. No driver in the history of F1 has won 3 consecutive races from P10 or lower. The reigning world champion was able to successfully do it at Spa and Hungaroring. The Dutchman didn’t get off to the best of starts this weekend as he suffered a gearbox issue to retire from the first practice session.

While Red Bull disappointed, Mercedes and McLaren were the two teams to spring up with a surprise at Zandvoort. The track was definitely suited for Ferrari to make a comeback due to the high downforce requirements but more competition thrusting itself into the mix has been eye catching. Ferrari have definitely been one of the team who were caught by surprise.

Carlos Sainz talking about the duo’s pace said, “It felt like we were back at being competitive, a bit like we expected after such a difficult weekend in Spa.”

“But then we are also very surprised by how quick everyone is: McLaren, Mercedes, and Red Bull. We are all in three tenths of a second. I’m sure it will make things very, very tight going into qualifying. And exciting!”

Charles Leclerc added, “We are all extremely close, and it’s still a surprise to see everybody so close. It’s going to be a tricky day, but we are looking forward to do another step forward.”

This is turning out to be a really exciting weekend both teams in the mix to fight for pole and a race win. Ferrari and Red Bull have their work cut out if they want to maintain their supremacy at the top of the table.
