“We could support many more,” COTA chairman ecstatic with F1’s growing popularity in the United States
Circuit of The Americas
COTA Chairman, Bobby Epstein opens up with his will to get more races in United States. US is a growing market for the sport with the introduction of Netflix Series and couple of new races. Also with the introduction of an American team, Haas, American crowd is getting more and more into the sport. With only one race in 2021, Formula 1 increased the reach to two races in 2022 and three races in 2023.
Formula 1 in 2021 only covered COTA, but in 2022 season introduced MIAMI as their second American based circuit. As a success, MIAMI weekend witnessed mind-blowing crowd present there to see Max Verstappen win. 2023 is set with a night race at Las Vegas which would then make a three race season based in the US. But Bobby Epstein is confident enough to supervise more than three races in USA with the sports allows it to.
Bobby opening up with the demands of F1 in his country said, “The Demand in the US Right now is incredible, and will absolutely support three races, and could support many more,” he concluded (quotes Motorsport.com)
Growing Demand of F1 in the United States
United States were already into motorsport with Indy Car and Nascar doing a good job to provide them a taste of it. But with Formula 1 coming up and launching their United States niche Web Series, Drive to Survive, gave a big blow bringing the fans into the pinnacle of the motorsport.
Drive to Survive is now a part of F1, with four seasons in display it has already attracted a number of new fans. DTS has attracted a lot of new fans to the sport since 2018, with over 50 million views worldwide. More the Fans, more the money.
American Grand Prix last year saw a rise to 400k people throughout the weekend. That, If you wonder was just 264k in 2018. A rise of around 51% over three years at COTA.
United States could gather much more than the current market with three or more races being held at their ground.
