Michael Andretti

Michael Andretti, son of the former Formula 1 world champion Mario Andretti, has been in talks to buy or build the eleventh team for the motorsport. He was already in preparation to buy Italian power Alfa Romeo but the deal couldn’t continue. That gave the American race driver a clear heads up to scratch a new Formula 1.

He was already given a green flag by the FIA, handing them all the paperwork needed. The only thing left was an allowance from the Formula 1 control body that refers to all the situations and asks the teams for their decisions. Michael got furious when he noticed the insider talking about the sport not being ready for a new team.

The FIA is very open to us and we have fulfilled all the requirements. Now we are waiting for them to give us a number what it costs to pay the teams to let us in,” he explains in conversation with Auto, Motor und Sport

Liberty Media is basically a group of companies responsible for handling the ins and out of the Formula 1 sport commercially. To which Andretti thinks the decision is too much on the hands of the team which wasn’t the case when Bernie Ecclestone was in charge of the sport. “They always ask how we want to be competitive. I say: let that be our problem! You don’t know our preparations,” said Andretti.

Andretti Autosport is still waiting for the green light to enter the racing world, they have been preparing this for a few years now. “We’ve been planning our program for a long time because it’s all we want. We deserve more respect,” he said.

With the team dealing with Renault as an engine provider, a few things like the selection for the drivers are to be done, one of them is possibly Herta looking for a change in Formula 1 from Indy car with Andretti.
