Christian Horner was left frustrated after Sergio Perez was relegated to 13th place due to the breach of the track limits. This meant that his lap times from Q3 were deleted, putting a major dent on his hopes to finish in the podium places. The Mexican was able to make it to Q3 but the stewards had confirmed that his last lap in Q2, which allowed him to get into Q3, was under the scanner.

After the end of Qualifying and much deliberation, it was vividly visible that Sergio Perez was clearly off the track and therefore his lap time was deleted. Before that lap in Q2, he could only manage P13 and that’s exactly what his position will be for the sprint race. This means that he’ll 12 places off from his team mate and championship rival, Max Verstappen, who starts from pole.

The silver lining to this whole situation is that the Mexican Defense Minister also happens to be a specialist in coming from back to produce some brilliant results. We saw that in Bahrain in 2020 and also in the last race at Silverstone. He had a lot of work to after being forced into a pit stop in the first few laps but he recovered beautifully from the back of the grid to finish P2.

That’s exactly what Christian Horner would want from Sergio in Austria. After the qualifying session, Red Bull’s team Principal said, “It is disappointing to lose fourth place, the track limits are very tight here this season, but it is frustrating that the team weren’t told my lap time had been deleted during Q2.”

“We have the Sprint tomorrow to make up ground and a long race ahead. We have to keep our head down and push hard to make progress and put us in a good position for Sunday.”

Sergio Perez was disappointed but also looked focused to make amends. He said, “It is disappointing to lose fourth place, the track limits are very tight here this season, but it is frustrating that the Team weren’t told my lap time had been deleted during Q2.

Sergio Perez and Christian Horner must be really disappointed after the news but all is not lost. It’s a long weekend which gives them to recover and score some more points to stay right in the mix.
