“We had problems with the DRS of Max,” Adrian Newey knows the “deciding factor” at Spanish GP

Adrian Newey, known as the genius of the design is the chief technical officer of Red Bull Racing. He was quite satisfied with the win in Spain and the performance the car showed even after some problems.

Spain Grand Prix 2022 marked the very comeback of Red Bull with their reliability and Max after the two DNF in the first three races. Max has now won four out of six races and a hattrick after the win in Barcelona. He has won all the races he has finished this season.

But the Spanish win wasn’t directly served on the plates to the Bulls, Max had a lot of struggles on the straights to overtake Geroge Russell in a Mercedes after his DRS stopped working.

The Dutch also got into trouble after he was taken out by the wind letting Perez and Russell pass him. But he anyhow managed to get the lead later after passing Geroge and his Teammate. All thanks to the strategy calls made by his team to pit for the third time.

Agreed, Newey to the same “We had problems with the DRS of Max” in conversation with F1 Nation Podcast. “The wind was very difficult. The car is so wind sensitive.”

“The tire strategy was the deciding factor”

This paved a way for Verstappen’s lead in the race and the championship after clearing 26 points in one race from the rival. And also for the Red Bull to take over Ferrari in the constructor championship.

Red Bull has two 1-2 finishes this season and won 4 of the 6 races giving them the momentum to go ahead for the Monaco Grand Prix this weekend.
