Going into the sixth round of the Formula 1 2022 World Championship, Carlos Sainz had huge expectations to live up to, as it was the Spanish Grand Prix–his home race in Barcelona. While this is Carlos’ second season with Ferrari, the Spaniard has got an amazing car this time, and he was thus touted to be one of the favorites for winning the race.

But in due course of time, Carlos qualified for the Spanish GP in the second place, and he started off the Main Race on Sunday from the front row, a bit behind his Scuderia teammate Charles Leclerc. In the days leading up to the Grand Prix, Carlos’ Spanish fans had made sure the tickets to the Grand Prix were sold off as reports revealed that the Spanish Grand Prix saw a record-breaking ticket sales for the Spaniard’s home race.

In the post-qualifiers interview, Carlos had promised to make sure he overtakes the frontrunner and takes the helm of the race, to seal his position as the Spanish Grand Prix champion. But the things did not work out in the Spaniard’s favor. Carlos Sainz, in fact, fell behind during turn 1, while Max Verstappen and George Russell came up to contest for the second place. Seeing this, former F1 World Champion Jacques Villeneuve could not mince his words as he said, Carlos Sainz is still not at the level of his teammate Charles Leclerc.

While the Ferrari SF-75 is being regarded as the most perfect car in this season of F1 where all other teams are struggling with their car models, Villeneuve believes Carlos Sainz is not making full use of it. While Carlos’ teammate Charles Leclerc has made use of every opportunity he has gotten until now, the Spaniard has failed to get a race win in all this while as a Ferrari racer.

Speaking of Carlos Sainz’s current form in the race car, Jacques Villeneuve mentioned in Formula1.nl, “Sainz is making too many mistakes at the moment, he is clearly not at Leclerc’s level.”

He further said, “He really has to be driving on the edge all the time to keep up with Charles. That shouldn’t happen with a car that can win races and the championship. Ending up behind a Mercedes and missing out on the podium was not a good day for him.
