“We hated each other at one point,” Charles Leclerc opens up about the cut throat karting rivalry between him and Max Verstappen

Max Verstappen and Charles Leclerc

Max Verstappen and Charles Leclerc have been racing together since their karting days and they still are at the top of their games. Each of them drive in a very specific and different manner, which makes the battle between the two of them so interesting. Both want to win, both have the passion and both have the aggression. Although they might be the biggest of rivals, the respect between the two of them is still not lost.

Max Verstappen would’ve wanted to stay at the top and try to re-win the Championship but Red Bull’s performance hasn’t been that way. On the other hand, Ferrari is cruising towards victory as Charles won 2 out of the 3 races and the one where he didn’t win, he got the 2nd position. The gap between Leclerc and the rest of the grid is already so huge but it’s only just the beginning.

According to Max, Charles and him have had conflicts in the past but now everything is good. They both drive aggressively and provide us with some of the nicest battles we see on track, while they stay away from each other as they rarely touch. They’re karting days might be over, but the feeling to win and the feeling of frustration when losing is still the same for the both of them.

In an interview Max said, “I race exactly like I always race because that is how I am. Everyone is different in their defence and their attack, and so far Charles and I race very well together because we know where we want to place the car and how much room we need to leave for each other. That works out really well for both of us. Charles is aggressive, too, and you can clearly see that. We have nice battles, but we don’t touch,” as per bbc.

With the extra points available for the drivers to grab at Imola, all the teams would be looking forward to making this opportunity count as each and every point is crucial this season.
