“We have passed that allowance for crashes,” Guenther Steiner concerned with the mounting cost of repairs
Guenther Steiner and Mick Schumacher
Guenther Steiner and Haas has had a mix first half of the season. It all started with that brilliant result in Bahrain which saw Kevin Magnussen secure P5 in his first race ever since his return to F1. The American team has a total of 15 points on the board which marks one of the best starts to the season but despite that, Mick Schumacher’s form has been a cause of concern as he has not been able to secure a single points finish.
On top of that, the German already has two major crashes which has added to the money that Haas has had to spend on repairs. It’s already tough for all the teams to stay within the budget cap and work on the development of the car. Therefore, it becomes extra difficult for all the teams to spend money or crashes while dealing with this stringent budget cap.
Mick Schumacher has had two crashes in the space of 6 races, the latest one being in Monaco. It was a crash which saw the German lose the rear of the car and crashing into the tecpro barriers. Fortunately, he was able to walk away from the scene unscathed despite having a car splitting crash. Mick was quickly rushed to the hospital where he was declared fine. But that did up the pressure on Guenther Steiner to find a way around the crashes for allowance.
Guenther Steiner believes that Mick Schumacher isn’t helping the team with his crashes and needs to improve
Guenther Steiner is pretty certain that this cannot continue if the team wants to make it to the end of the season. He said, “It’s just not possible to continue like this, and Mick knows that. Obviously, he wants to score points, and if you crash into the wall, you don’t score points.“
“He knows that, so it’s like putting pressure on and telling him you shouldn’t go and crash. I don’t do that… because I think they know that they shouldn’t be crashing.“
“We have passed that allowance [for crashes]. We passed that in Jeddah. We are in front of the allowance, I would love to be in front of how many points we scored, but we are in front of the allowance for crashes,” as reported by motorsport.
Guenther Steiner feels that Mick Schumacher needs to be more careful because the financial pressure is growing on the team by the day. Therefore, he needs to find the balance to help out the team.
