“We just need to give him time,” Lewis Hamilton expresses his views on the new FIA President and Race directors
After a frustrating race in Monaco, Lewis Hamilton is hopeful for a better weekend this time out in Baku.
Lewis Hamilton, a 7-time world champion, almost on the way to his 8th was let down by the former race director Michael Masi’s decision made Max Verstappen the 2021 world champion, his first-ever. The controversial decision was later criticized all over the world leading to the expulsion of Masi from the Formula 1 director seat by the FIA.
In the early reign of FIA president Mohammed Ben Sulayem, new race directors were appointed by the names of Niels Wittich and Eduardo Freitas. The new directors have later caught fire for some odd decisions to their name, one of them being the delayed start of the Monaco Grand Prix. They were condemned for the decision by drivers and race personnel.
Lewis took over the director’s call for their decision and gave out his views on the overall directory done by the head, “Yeah, I really don’t have much to say,” Lewis said.
“I would just listen to what people are saying. Yeah, we have to have confidence that they will continue to make progress. I think it’s about collaboration, so I generally think that there’s been a good job has been done so far.” Lewis continued.
Lewis Hamilton also appreciates the role done by the FIA boss
Lewis especially appreciated the work of FIA head, Mohammed Ben Sulayem, until now. He understands the responsibilities the head has to overcome to make crucial decisions affecting the sport overall.
“Particularly, you know, we are trying to work with the FIA and I think for Mohammed, I think it’s a huge role, big shoes to fill, and I think we just need to give him time.” Lewis said.
He also approves the future plans of the FIA boss and believes he will be able to fulfil them. “There’s a lot that he wants to do, and lots of things that he wants to change and I believe, from what he’s told us, that he will do those,” Hamilton concluded.
Lewis Hamilton is currently on the way to his worst F1 finish over the years due to struggling W13, but still, has hopes for the year to get better if the Mercedes team comes out with the porpoising solution.
