“We need to put it all together,” Alpine to push more to get things going for Fernando Alonso

Alpine’s start to the 2022 season was promising. The car showed good pace, porpoising was under control, and the drivers were confident in their new seats in the A522. But as the races happened, certain issues constantly came on top to haunt their races.

Seeing how things currently stand, they are in a tussle with Alfa Romeo, who is P5 with a 5 points lead to Alpine. Alpine’s struggles, most notably in Australia, Miami and Saudi Arabia, have cost them plenty of championship points, especially to Fernando Alonso, that could’ve gelled them comfortably at P5 in the constructors’ championship. 

Otmar Szafnauer, addressing the troubles around Fernando Alonso, said, “We need to put it all together for Fernando, and Esteban [Ocon] for that matter – him starting 20th wasn’t ideal – and we will do that in the near future and score even more points.”

Otmar on Fernando Alonso’s frustrations and Miami GP

Fernando Alonso appeared to be good on pace in different sessions in the races so far. However, his bad seems to have always gotten the last laugh, especially in Saudi Arabia, Miami and Imola.

Speaking on Alonso’s Miami GP, Otmar said, “He should have started higher up again. He just missed out on Q3 by a little bit. We had the pace of [Valtteri] Bottas and [Lewis] Hamilton in qualifying, and then once you start there it’s a different race.”

“Very frustrating. [Miami] you don’t get into Q3 because [Carlos] Sainz blocks you. [At Imola] at the start, Mick backs up into you and you have to retire the car. It has been frustrating but there will be better times to come,” spoke Otmar on Alonso’s frustrating weekends but is hopeful of better weekends for the Spaniard and the team ahead.

The Alpine’s boss also expressed his satisfaction with the 2022 car. All they have to ensure is they are always ready and be really fast at that to avoid any other accident caused back of the grid start.
