Max Verstappen, ahead of his home Grand Prix, has revealed that the reduction in weight on the RB18 has been one of the key factors that have helped him in putting stellar performances this year.

Earlier in the season, Max Verstappen came out and talked about how he was not happy with the weight of the cars, but now it seems that Red Bull has got on top of the weight problem and the Dutchman is finally at ease.

The 2022 F1 season has seen the dawn of new regulations in the sport that led to a few teams, including Red Bull being overweight at the start of the season hampering the performance of the car.

Moreover, the battle between Ferrari and Red Bull was a close one during the initial phase of 2022 but, as the season has progressed, the Milton-Keynes-based team has managed to stretch out its advantage in both Championships.

Max was asked if there has been any particular update that has helped the team in their fight with Ferrari and while talking about it, the Dutchman said, “I think we started the year with a very fat car, it was a bit overweight – that doesn’t help.”

So we slowly got rid of that.”

Just understanding the new rules as well, finding a better set-up on the car from the first race to now, and yeah, you can see the car has changed a little bit over time, so everything went in a good direction.”

Max Verstappen started the Belgium Grand Prix from P14 and despite that, was able to comfortably make his way up through the grid and win the race by a handsome margin over the rest of the competitors.

It was a dominating display on Verstappen’s part and once again proved why he is considered as one of the best drivers on the current F1 grid.

Moreover, he was asked whether the race was as comfortable as it looked from the outside, and Verstappen said,Spa was just a really good weekend, from the first lap, the car was on rails and I think that was the first time in five years around Spa we could actually run our normal downforce.”

The last few years, we had to run a bit skinnier and that doesn’t make it feel great in sector two but now it felt really well balanced so that made it really enjoyable to drive.”
