“We will start talks,” Jost Capito confirms Williams in the running to sign a partnership deal with Audi
Jost Capito
Jost Capito was brought in by Williams to right the ship after a period of slump for the British Manufacturers. After seeing the highest of highs, the team has had to see the lowest of lows for the past few years. After a combined total of 1 point in 2019 and 2020, things definitely for F1 royalty. Williams Racing is the second most successful team in the history of F1 just after Ferrari with 9 constructor’s title and 7 driver’s titles.
In 2021, we saw major changes in the board room with Claire Williams stepping down from her role and handing it over to Jost Capito. The changes did make a lot of difference keeping in mind that the team had hit rock bottom. Williams racing rose up to 8th after two successive 10th place finishes which included a podium for George Russell in a rainy affair at the Belgian Grand Prix.
It’s not been the best of starts for the team this year around too as they only have 3 points to their name but the pace has been encouraging keeping in mind where they have been in the last few years. This is the time for the team to put the foot on the pedal and do whatever needs to be done, and that’s exactly what Jost Capito has been planning to do.
Jost Capito interested in signing a deal with Audi in the near future
After McLaren backed out of a potential deal with Audi, it seems like Williams might be in the running to do so. The Team Principal of Williams confirmed, “For each team it is interesting to have a cooperation with a manufacturer.
“Then, when this is really decided the entry of the Volkwsagen group brands in F1, then we will start talks.”
“At the moment there is still no definitive go-ahead, and even the power unit regulations have not been definitively established.“
“The decision of the Volkswagen group, as far as I know, also depends on these aspects. I think it will be approved in the next few weeks, and from there we will see,” as reported by formulapassion.
Jost Capito understands that engine power has been the Achilles Heel for Williams racing for a really long time and a partnership with Audi could be a solution to all their problems.
