Lando Norris in McLaren's MCL36
Lando Norris, the McLaren F1 driver, managed to secure a P4 start for the upcoming Sprint race in Brazil, but the Brit has indicated that he could have landed his MCL36 on pole, had the conditions remained the same as they were during Q1.
The Brazil qualifying session was run under wet conditions where the drivers had a trying time in keeping their cars on the track and also, at the same time doing decent enough laps to take them through the three sessions of qualifying.
While Lando Norris managed to do exactly that by landing his car in P4 at the end of qualifying, he feels a bit was left on the table and while stressing about it, added, “I am really happy with today, to be honest. I don’t feel good.”
I feel like I didn’t do things like I should have done if I was feeling 100% but things still turned out well considering I was P1 in Q1 and P2 in Q2. Surprisingly a good day.“
The 22-year-old, despite not being able to give his 100 percent, is pleased with his outing and believes that considering the food poisoning he was dealing with, he had a decent enough session.
Lando Norris’s take on not being able to secure P1 during the qualifying

Lando Norris during the Q1 and Q2 session of qualifying was in P1 and P2 at the end of the sessions and was looking in good shape to secure a potential P1 slot for the upcoming Sprint race, however, conditions changed quite a bit after Q1, and he feels, that was what hindered his progress during Q3.
While stressing on the same, he added, “I think when the conditions were more tricky we proved that we were the quickest (Q1 and Q2) and I was the quickest, but in the end, it was about to do we take the risk and come out first when the track conditions were the best or wait a bit.”
“I think if I went out first we would have been in front of the Haas.”

The prolific Brit believes his P4 gird position was a combination of changing conditions and not being able to get out at the right time during Q3.
However, P4 is still a very good position to start the race in, and considering that rain is expected to play a role again during the Sprint, anything is possible, and who knows, by the end of the 24-lap dash, Norris might find himself further up the grid for Sunday’s mega event.
