“Where was Max in that race?” : Peter Windsor can’t help but wonder where Max Verstappen was during the Monaco GP
Max Verstappen
F1 journalist Peter Windsor criticises Ferrari for losing the Monaco Grand Prix, but accolades Carlos Sainz for coming second and defeating teammate Charles Leclerc, who was quicker all weekend. “Where was Max Verstappen this weekend?” he begins to wonder.
Sainz defeated his teammate in partially thanks to a crew screwup. Ferrari lost the lead in the race after having to give up Leclerc’s pole position after Sainz’s pit stop. The Spaniard then proceeded to drive cleanly throughout the race, finishing in second place.

Windsor congratulated Sainz on defeating his relatively stronger teammate before pausing to take into account Red Bull drivers Sergio Perez and reigning F1 World Champion Max Verstappen. Perez, after all, defeated his normally tougher teammate in Monaco.
Peter Windsor sees cracks in Red Bull’s strategy
“Where was Max in that race? He should have been the guy who went from Intermediates to the slicks. Or just the one who had gone to the Intermediates very quickly and driven a fairly long stint on them. He went for the middle and wasn’t actually in a position to improve track position. Completely bizarre. My compliments to all the drivers who did the same as Sainz,” said the journalist.
Windsor stated that there were only two reasonable alternatives: drive hard on the wets or go to the Intermediates sooner. Because Verstappen appears to have done neither, the F1 analyst was unimpressed with the championship leader’s performance. Perez’s strategy has worked well.
Windsor believes the Mexican was fortunate in his track position. 7-time F1 World Champion Lewis Hamilton followed Perez’s tactic (with a lap latency), but he didn’t profit from the successful strategy because he was caught in traffic.
